Irving Investors

Jeremy is the founder and Portfolio Manager of Irving Investors, a private investment vehicle with a sector agnostic approach and a single name investment strategy. In order to maximize alpha generation, Irving invests across the capital structure and across the life of a company.

Jeremy started Irving in 2009, after being part of two successful acquisitions. The first was a digital media property (Pocket Change) and the second was a corporate relocation software company (Urban Hostess).

The Crossover

Jeremy’s history with private company tech positioned him well to build a robust “crossover” equities strategy enabling Irving Investors to realize the benefit of investing in both private and public companies. The theory is that expertise and economic exposure to both privates and publics is accretive to the other.

Irving has seen a great benefit owning companies through the cycle – pre-IPO, investing in the IPO and continuing to grow a position in the open market thereafter. In addition to improving returns through optimizing entry and cost basis, Jeremy is also able to build very valuable relationships with company management and a much deeper familiarity with some of Irving’s portfolio companies.

Irving has in a few instances gone earlier in the venture cycle and has participated in a few direct private equity deals.

Alternative Investments

Additionally, Jeremy invests in a number of private deals. The objective to diversify into yield-focused deals as well as assets that are uncorrelated to the public markets.

The largest concentration is in passive real estate deals, primarily multi-family acquisition deals, but also senior housing, retail, industrial, single-family residential and office acquisition. Additionally, Jeremy has invested in a few ground-up development deals including some multifamily, senior housing, retail, hotel and office developments.

Jeremy has also made a number of private investments in the oil and gas sector. The majority of these investments are passive direct production deals through acquisitions of already producing wells. These investments are yield focused and are located in a number of different states. Jeremy has also invested in a few energy-focused funds and some mineral rights deals.

As this current economic cycle matures, Jeremy has invested in a number of unique alternative debt instruments with an increasing focus on shortening duration. These include some corporate lending, p2p lending and more recently factoring and real estate commission advances.

Much of Jeremy’s success is generated through his network of relationships with companies, investment banks, venture investors, public market investors and other Family Offices. Jeremy is highly reliant on this network for access to deal flow as well as shared analysis and co-diligence.
